Points To Keep In Mind When Creating Your First Business Website

Whether you already run a successful company, or are planning to start one and operate online, having a website in this day and age is highly important. It allows you to always be ‘open’ for business, and is often the first point of call for people who are researching into the type of service or particular products that you offer.

So when you come to make your first ever website there are a number of things you need to keep in mind. Unfortunately it’s not as easy as clicking your fingers and everything falling into place. You need to put in a bit of work to keep the website maintained and running smoothly. Do this however, and you’ll find that you’ll be able to attract a lot of business this way.

Here are a few things to keep in mind if you are about to create your business’s first every website…

Pick A Good Domain Name

This will obviously need to be the name of your company if you are already established, though if you are going to solely be operating online you may have a range of options. Many people actually find the domain name first before naming their business as it means you’ll be guaranteed to find the web address that you want. Once you have settled on a domain name, it’s worth buying up all of the available Top Level Domains (TLDs) – in other words get the .co.uk, .com, .net, .org etc. so nobody else can buy them in the future and try and steal your business away from you using a site with your own company name.

Find A Hosting Package

The more expensive part of setting up a website is getting the right hosting in place. There are numerous providers for hosting, some great and some not so good. The most important thing if you are running a business website is that your provider is reliable and has a contingency plan for if something goes wrong – such as if there is something which causes downtime and interrupts their servers (where all of your website’s files are located). You don’t want to be experiencing any downtime and lose customers as a result, so have a good look around for a good provider, and try to read reviews of services to see how they have dealt with any such issues in the past.

Design A Great Site

You may or may not have the skills to design a website, but either way there are some important aspects that you need to incorporate, whether you are going to do it yourself or get one of the agencies offering professional web design to do this for you. The vital things to incorporate are clear and easy to follow navigation, well-written content (preferably with a section which is updated regularly e.g. news or a blog), good quality images and a way for the visitor to contact you through the website should they wish to do so.

Of course, there is much more to building a great website then these points alone, but hopefully this will get you started on your path to online success!
